Sun 4th April: Double birthday + Easter

The Easter HKDR volunteers

A group of twelve volunteers came over to Lamma for the day, bringing with them food and gifts.  It was a triple celebration, as it was Easter Sunday, and an early birthday celebration for both Susan Fan and myself.  I had been warned not to eat any breakfast, and just as well as there was a big spread laid on outside the temple on the beach, including a cake each for Susan and myself (made by one of the volunteers – very impressive!) as well as a chocolate Easter bunny for both of us.

Not only that, but we both got a special personalised T-shirt , and mine had Inky and Murphy on it.  Murphy was very impressed.

Alfie, still weak but getting stronger daily

The newest resident on Lamma who joined the party is Alfie, the golden retriever boy I took from AFCD recently.  He’s getting better and putting on some weight, and he enjoys a stroll down to the beach although he’s still quite weak and that’s as much exercise as he can manage.  Still it’s a huge improvement from  hardly being able to stand, and he’s such a sweet and happy dog.

There were so many photos taken by the volunteers, many of whom are members of the HKDR Photography Club, and you can see them all on our HKDR Facebook page (just click on the button on the right).  Foster, Yanki and Vivian head the team and new recruits are always welcome.

While the volunteers got ready to take the dogs for a long walk to the quarry, I had to leave for Whiskers’n’Paws with a group of puppies.  As expected, it was a quiet afternoon, but at least one puppy, Mole, found a home.  When I got back at the end of the day, the volunteers were only just getting ready to leave.  They’d been busy giving haircuts to a few of the small dogs, not an easy job with some of the less cooperative customers.

Recognise Porky? His hair is starting to grow back now

    Has Jay been found?

      Hi Diana,
If Jay had been found it would have been the first thing I would have mentioned and would be plastered all over Facebook. I’m looking forward to being able to write that, but for now no, he’s still missing.

    Hi Sally,
Just an update: my family and I adopted Flossy (now Gracie) yesterday afternoon! She’s a very sweet and lovely dog and is adjusting well to her new home! Our prayers go out to Jay, somewhere out in Hong Kong. We hope he’s found!
